Anne Harris Wilcox is a dance educator, choreographer, and performer from Rochester, NY. She holds an MFA from SUNY Brockport and a BA from Connecticut College, and is a certified K-12 teacher of dance. Anne is Artistic Director of Present Tense Dance, which she founded in 1991. She has received grants from the New York Foundation of the Arts and the New York State Decentralization program to create dance/theater pieces including When the Souls Rise, The Picture of Dorian Gray, A Public and Private Hearth, and The Seal Maiden.
Anne's work has been performed with Syracuse Contemporary Dance, Drumcliffe Irish Arts, Rochester Contemporary Dance Collective, as well as at festivals including Image Movement Sound and the 2008 Vision of Sound Concert Series.
She serves on the board of New York State Dance Education Association and is a founding member of Rochester Contemporary Dance Collective. Anne has taught at the University of Rochester, SUNY Brockport, and the Rochester Institute of Technology, and has been a guest artist for many high school and college dance programs.
She was curriculum leader and faculty member for School of Performing Arts at Eastridge High School for eight years. In 2006 Anne was honored at the NDEO/NYSDEA regional conference for meritorious service in dance education for the children of Western New York. She currently works with her company and teaches at Drumcliffe Irish Arts, in Rochester. In 2008, Anne has also had the pleasure of working with notable choreographers such as Eddie Murphy, Kista Tucker, and Bill Evans, and has as served as a consultant for Young Audiences. Anne lives in Rochester with her husband and their three children, and is an active homeschooling parent.
